Ok here ya go! I inherited a 1957 5.5 three years ago and got it running. Since I didn't know about this site I asked several outboard mechanic friends about the correct mix. 50:1 was the answer I got from all three. So today I started reading some of the other threads on these motors and realized what a mistake I had made . Did I totally screw this thing up? I have had it running in the past but it never ran for long like I thought it could. What will this do to the pistons not to mention the crank. How do I tell if I cooked them? It still pulls okay, not locked up(yet!). I also have tried rebuilding the tank with a kit from lainge but I can't tell if its working correctly. I did find the thread on rebuilding those so I will try doing it again using the excellent info in the aformentioned thread. Thank God I found this site as I really like this motor and the way they just kind of tick right along! I also have a 1949 QA-10 that is a project motor in itself but I'll hold on to that thought and start another thread when I start that one!

Re: 1957 5.5 mix questions

Probably no permanent harm done, grits.

Feed her 24:1 and she will probably run a bit cooler and longer.
