I have a 1957 Evinrude 35 that has a low speed idle adjustment issue. I have completely restored this beauty and have been running it on a regular basis for the last few years. I rebuilt the carb last year before storing it for the winter. When I took it out a few weeks ago i noticed that it wouldn't idle correctly. i also noticed that it wasn't responding to my low speed idle adjustments. It starts right up and runs great at medium to wide open throttle but will die as soon as the throttle gets below the start position. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the iboats.com forum. The members here are great and the experts, which I am not, can help you with any issue involving that great old motor. However, BTDT with my 1959 Johnson 35. Started and ran great but idled poorly. After three carb cleanings with no improvement, I finally found some really hard crud in the low-speed, needle-valve passage that I had to use a dental pick to get out. Following that it idled great until I traded it away after many years of use. Good luck!

Thanks Willyclay,I pulled the carb apart again and cleaned the low speed need valve passage. When putting the low speed valve back in I noticed that it went in further than before so I guess i didn't have it completely seated. The threads were a bit sticky and it felt like it was completely seated but a little more torque and it continued in 3 more turns until it was fully seated. Thanks for your help.
