The numbers get very confusing. There seem to be a lot of numbers for different starters that will interchange, although they MAY take a different bracket. Also, they kept making the starters more powerful as years went by, which made them physically longer in size. The longer ones require an additional mounting blate or suppoert bracket on the bottom. Again, with the right bracket and support, they probably will interchange....I think.
You do have to watch for the hood mounting method when selecting brackets. As I said, it gets confusing. Even I would have to take the parts in hand and compare to see if they'll work.
So anyway, here's what the quick reference book says for the starter motors:
385401 = 1957-58
381865 = 1959-61
380239 = 1962-76
