Hey guys great info you all are giving to us rookies. Just want to ask what is the best way to keep the flywheel from turning when I am trying to torque it down? The only place I see to maybe get some leverage is on the top, where the starter pawls would engage if the starter housing was on? Tried a strap wrench and it wasn't long enough. Thanks for any advice.

Make your own strap wrench. A piece of 2 x 2 lumber and a piece of nylon strap. Nail the strap to the 2 x 2 and you have a strap wrench.

would you just turn the wood until the nylon strap got tight?

Just buy a cheap nylon ratchet strap. Wrap it around the flywheel and ratchet it tight on opposite sides of the motor stand. Works for me.

hi merkdog. the fellas are right about making your own strap wrench, but you can buy them pretty darn cheap too. I got a pair of them, one small and one large, for $7 at Harbor Freight. Money well spent.
