1957 Evinrude Lark 35hp low speed knob

Hello my low speed knob is really hard to move am new too the outboard world and wanted to ask before I take carburetor off. The motor turn on on the first crank I used it at the river last week but was never able to planing out.

^agree. Just loose enough that you can rotate the needle -- too loose will let the needle change location with vibrations.
