1957 fleetwin 7.5 hp water discharge

Hi. I,m new to posting on here . Hope I'm doing it right. I just got a 1957 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5 hp 7522-24931 motor. My question is where is the water supposed to discharge from. I thought it was supposed to come out the hole half way up the lower unit where the exhaust comes. This one is coming out at the base of the engine cover below the head. I dont work on outboard motors much so I'm not sure and don't want to run it if it's not right. Any help would be appreciated.

It's not supposed to come out there. Chances are the freeze plug at the base of the cylinder head has popped out. Install a new plug in the head and it should route normally...
