Hello, everyone, I hope someone can help me.

I need to change the water impeller on my 7.5hp 1957 Fleetwin. I got everything dissasembled and removed the water pump housing, only to find that the current impeller is far smaller than the new one I bought. My new one, which the manual says is correct, is a Sierra part 18-3001, which x-refs to an OMC 277181.

I recall seeing a mention on this site, but can't find it, that a later model water pump was a direct switch out on these engines, and that that impeller was smaller.

Can anyone tell me either what year/model water pump I'm likely to have, or even better what the impeller model is likely to be?

Thanks,
Richard

Your motor has the plastic impeller housing right? If so, it takes the smaller impeller like you found.

Thanks, that thread had the link to the right part number - and MarineEngine.com has it in stock, which my local shop does not. Their website parts finder even has the "If your motor has the plastic housing use this impeller" note, while my shop manual only list the larger impeller for the metal housing.

I hit another problem with the propshaft seal, but I'll start a new thread.
