Hello-

I have a 1957 Johnson 35HP model RDE-19. I have converted the fuel system to use a fuel pump which gets its vacuum from engine side port. Had a used fuel pump from a 1964 Johnson 18hp, part number is 380016. This pump is working fine now, but I am going on a fishing trip and don't want to be without a spare or at least a rebuild kit since we must boat aways to campsite.

Question #1: IS there a rebuild kit that will work to rebuild the 380016 fuel pump? This pump looks similar to the pump used on 25-50hp like Sierra 18-7351 or OMC 438556.

Question #2: IS the 380016 fuel pump big enough to supply my 35hp for long term use? Engine seems to run fine with it now.

Thanks for your help in advance!

That fuel pump is plenty for that motor.

I cant remember off hand if that has a kit, let me look into it.

HighTrim-

Thanks for the reply. I screwed up, the correct part number of the pump is 379297. Pump has 5/16" inlet and 3/16" outlet. It is off of a 1964 Johnson 18hp. I am using it on my 1957 Johnson 35hp now. So, I should ask if this 379297 pump has a rebuild kit that anyone knows of. If no kit is available, then would a Sierra 18-7351 work for a 35HP? The 18-7351 says it is for 9.9 and 15hp, but is a big pump. Thanks!

Ok I believe the replacement number for that is 388685. This is the little square pump is it not? I believe it is. Im not certain that it would properly feed a 35hp motor at WOT, but have never tried it myself, it very well may though, I just dont want to give you any guarantees.

The Sierra 18-7351 you mentioned has the same size fittings, which is important, but both fittings are on the bottom. I cannot think of any reason why you would not have enough room there if you mounted it on the top bypass cover, but if it fits it will work fine.

Either of them are easily rebuilt.

You are correct. The 388685 is the small square pump. I currently have the old 379297 mounted on the bottom bypass cover. After looking it over, I have plenty of room under the pump yet to get the hose on the fitting that point down. I think I will order the Sierra 18-7351, just don't want to chance the small square pump for WOT service. Thanks!
