1957 Johnson 35hp wiring help

Hey Iboaters. I need help with the wiring form my '57 35hp Johnson. I've got the motor cleaned up and and ready to go except for wiring. I have a manual that shows a variety of wiring diagrams, that's not the problem. The problem is I have no idea what they're saying. I don't know the parts well enough to know what they're referring to. I know I can make the connections if I knew what to connect to visually. Does such a thing exist? Then part two of my question, I've read that wiring for this particular motor goes from the key to a starter selonoid to the actual motor. Is this correct? Where do I get a starter selonoid and what do I get? Thanks for your help in advance. Much appreciated.

Does this help you out on the wiring? Yes you need a starter solenoid, should be available from your local dealer or many after market sources.

Sorry for the delay getting back to your control question... Yes, I do have controls for the motor.
