I have a 1957 Johnson Seahorse 35HP RDE-19 that I want to connect up the electric starter. I have been looking for an electric harness, but can find nothing. There are some harnesses advertised for the year, but the plug fitting is all wrong. Am I using the wrong search terms. I would build my own if I could find just the plug (see engine plug socket in the picture). Any guidance would be appreciated.

The trouble is, alot of the harnesses are aging leading to cracked insulation, corrosion causing resistance, and complete failure. There are some that are still usable though.

You can purchase them new here, it is the only source for them new.

You could also remove the motor plug, make your own harness that runs direct through the lower cowl.

You have a couple of choices. Wait a long time trying to find a decent used one, or break down with a bunch of coins and buy a new one. www.nymarine.ca has them. The '58 model cables have sockets for two more pins for the key switch that came out that year. No matter, the '58 cable will work on a '57 motor, but you can't use a '57 cable on a '58 motor.
