Had my motor in the shop for far to long....
Last visit, I was told the thermostat may need replacing.
To my understanding, there is no thermostat in this motor?

What would cause overheating, if there is indeed and issue?

Engine work done so far: Rebuild Lower Unit: New Seals, and new Impeller.
Replace the Powerhead gasket... I knew that was going.
Compression was reported at 95, but they said the gauges can vary a lot...
Ran strong... some years ago when it was taken out of the water.

Thanks,
-Jamie

The 1957 does not have a thermostat.
Dump some seafoam in the spark plug holes and let it sit for a day,it will loosen up the rings and your compression will increase.
If the shop claimed that they may have to replace the thermostat, you had best take the engine back home.these engines are very simple to work on and whoever talks about a thermostat on a 1957 35 horse, should not be allowed close to it.
