Comments and Suggestions are welcome, Especially in dealing with/preserving wood with some rot in it. I don't want to replace all the wood like I did in the Starchief, as I am trying to get close to restore to OEM on this one.

I've gotta say I really love the CPES from Rotdoctor.com it did a GREAT AND WONDERFUL job penetrating the layers and making it strong enough to break screwdriver bits !! It's supposed to work great with rotted would, but where looks matter, you now have stained wood, so you'll need to paint it or something.. which with rotdoctor in there, paint has a much better hold onto the surface. i used a 2qt kit to liberally cover my 4x7 peice of plywood for my transom ( i only did 2 sides ) where i coud have done 4.. using 1qt per side. .. good luck, can't wait to see what you doo..

That is one SWEETlittle boat!..I believe that replacing the rotten boards will in the end ,be quicker..and look much nicer . whenever I found rot and tried to patch it..it always came back to haunt me, plus it just never looked "right". There is a guy named Sergio on evilbay that sells nice seasoned mahoganny and teak planks ,very resonable prices and big enough pieces to do almost anything on these boats...i've got some 30" x 72" x 1.25 thick from him shipped for around 60 bucks. Are you going to put period correct power on it?

Kanion,

Belive it or not, I just put some CPES on it tonight.:D

Matt,

I am planning on replacing some, it's just the 1-7/8 By 5/8 By 14 foot pieces I am having trouble finding:confused: Will look into that guy on fleabay for the mahogany. I am restoring a 1956 30 Evinrude Lark and Evinrude Simplex Controls for it.:D

Very cool boat, and I'm digging that trailer. Looks like airplane landing gear.

If you get stuck finding and shipping 14 foot long pieces you might consider scarf joining two smaller pieces to get the long pieces.

cypress or swamp cedar would work as well for your long gunnel pieces ..and should be local timber for you..iffin you stain and seal it you can make it match the rest.
