Mostly a newby here!

I just bought a 58 Big Twin to put on a 14 foot Glen L Zip I am building and I have a couple of initial questions for you kind folks.

First my model, 25034 is a manual start per the documentation but this engine has electric start. Could have been modified but doesn't look like it to me. Any ideas?

Second, the wiring coming out of the internal wire harness (377280) is in real bad shape. The external harness (377278) I do not have and availability is doubtful from my initial search. Also, I do not have the junction box for the solenoids, etc. My question then is would it not be easier to just eliminate both wire harnesses and run the wiring to a homemade junction box? If the motor had to come off the boat I would just open the junction box and undo the wiring from there.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Sure. lots & lots of people have done some creative wiring as you suggest. I know you will do a nice job, to go with the boat you are taking so much time with.

I use an improvised wiring harness for testing the 35s, and for regular use with my 18 (converted to electric start). It's a simple system, though of course you can make it pretty complicated. On the Glen L, depends on some aesthetics -- if looking for a motor restoration, will want to work at getting the harness and box.
