I am working on an old 1958 35hp Johnson. I know that the previous owner changed the coils, points and condensers but i am not sure that everything is wired correctly. The shop manual i have does not have a good diagram for this motor.
It should be simple but i have not been able to get a spark. I think he may have wired it incorrectly when he put it back together. Does anyone have a diagram or can tell me how this should be wired i would be most great full.

PS. I got this motor on a 58 glasspar g3 for 300$ with a tailor:). I have redone the hull and added new seats and carpet and a steering wheel. Should be a great fishing boat and a steel at the price.

The coil has two wires, one ground, one hot. The hot wire goes to the points, and the condenser only has 1 wire which also goes to the points. There sometimes is a 3rd wire to go to the points (kill button/stop button) but if it doesn't have it, it wont be there.

Set points .020 on high side of cam and you should be golden. If you still have no spark, I would make sure the coils are seated into the spark plug wires correctly. If still no spark, or a hint of a spark, I'd definitely check into some new coils.

Unplug the main harness from the motor and see if you have spark. That takes all the other stuff out of the picture. I hope your coils don't look like these.

I reset the points and resettled the spark plug leads into the coils. A little fine tunning and this little old motor in running great. Thank you for your help. :)
