1958 5.5Evinrude stalls out

I just got a 5.5hp evinrude. It runs fine for about 2 minutes then it just quits. When I try to get it restarted I have to choke it and it takes at least 10-15 pulls. I have a new fuel line and am running it 24:1. What should be my next step to fixing this issue?

Welcome to the forum!<br /><br />Clean carb real good. Clean with carb cleaner and compresed air. Remove welch plugs and clean real good.<br /><br />Put in new water pump if you haven already. Drain and refill lower unit.<br /><br />Good luck!

I am currently rebuilding the Carb. Does any one have a manual that would have the part number for the Carb float? I feel mine needs to be replaced.<br /><br />elderBombadil

Is the gas cap on the pressure tank tight? The tank must be able to build up pressure... Two minutes is about how long you'd get it to run on a full carb of fuel before it runs out...<br /><br />- Scott
