I've been offered $1200 for my boat and trailer. I still have the '57 Javelin motor, but it's missing a carburator, so my best thinking was to just get a new motor and try to sell the Javelin for parts, but now this offer's come up. I live in Florida, and sure would love to have my little boat running, but I'm not sure about how the aluminum would hold up either. Does anybody have thoughts on this?

It's a '58. How's it held up so far? Pretty good I would guess. I've got a '57 alumacraft that has spent it's life in salt water and it's still going strong. Get your motor fixed or get another motor and keep enjoying that boat. It's a classic. They just don't make them like that anymore. Good luck.

I needed to hear that. The boat station keeps calling me with the interested buyer...but I really don't want to sell it. $1200 just doesn't sound like enough, given what it would cost to get a new boat, motor, and trailer. I can't use the boat right now, which made me wonder about my rationale in keeping it. But you're right - I bought it because it was made the year I was born, has these beautiful bench seats that I recovered to the classic style, and is a joy to own. Even if it doesn't see the water very often, it's worth keeping. Thank you for the encouragement.

Keep that boat and motor forever!

For others to see, this is a 1956 Johnson Javelin - black & white pic.

The guy was crestfallen - he knew it was a cool boat. The Boat Station (where it's sitting, looking for a carburator) can't find a carburator anywhere for the '57 Javelin. Any thoughts on where to look?

It's a "Way Cool" rig.

I'd post your motor questions on the "Johnson & Evinrude Outboards" forum. More motor members there, along with experts.

Try aomci.org - the antique outboard guys. There's a free classifieds section.

Try the Ask-A-Member section too, to see what will interchange.

Hey, I've got a "59 Deep C 15' I'd sell. She's in good shape (No Trailer,or motor) Also a 14" Crestliner Seaman(I think) that needs all new wood and a new owner.(to many boats and not enough time to restore them and run a business) I'm in S.E. Iowa. I don't want to not offend the Forum Gods, so send me a P.M. Thanks ,Sandusky

I'm going to do that - keep the motor & see if I can get it restored. But that will take time and I'd like to use the boat now. I found a 2005 Suzuki 15 hp for $1350, that's only been used twice and looks it. Really - it's brand new and runs great. Even so I'm sure I can bargain, but here's the real question: the boat has a steering wheel so the motor needs to get hooked up to that. The Suzuki has a tiller, and the "boat guy" says it'll cost alot to outfit the motor to the existing steering system. True or false? If false, why would he say that? I feel like I'm getting the "little lady" treatment.

Most modern outboards will adapt to steering very easily, it's the throttle and shift controls that can require parts specific to the motor. I would hold out for a 25 to 40 horse that comes with controls. A fifteen will be slow on your 15 footer, although quite economical if you're not into zooming about.

I have a 59' 15 ft deep c that came with what I think are seats for it but I can't figure out how they go in. Could you send a couple of pics of yours so I can get the right ideal. Mine has a windshield on it I need to buff out to. Thank you for your time, Don Crook dcrook31@msn.com
