1958 Elgin 7.5 HP...is it air cooled or does she have a water pump???

The reason I ask is she never "pee's" as I call it...and the reason I ask about the water pump is she will be cruising and seems to be over heating then shuts down as if it has a kill switch and is steaming from the water...what do you think is causing the motor to shut down???

A friend of mine has one and it is water cooled.

The answer should be obvious. The water pump isn't working. Not meaning to be a wise guy, but you probably don't have anything left to fix. How many times did you run it to the point of siezure? If it isn't destroyed by now, it is a miracle.

If it's a 58 Elgin 7.5 it's water cooled.

I only did this once...sorry for being new to these old engines...isnt that why we ask questions. I let it cool for about 20 minutes and it started right back up but I killed it right away till I can inspect a little closer. Can a new water pump be purchased still???

It only takes once to score the pistons and burn the head gasket and exhaust gaskets. Yes, you ask to learn and I answer to teach.
