oh boy a big fat fifty:eek:

be careful uses lots of gas! and is very heavy

id check compression and spark first while your looking into restoring the motor

lol yeah i know it uses a lot of gas. last time out it ran fine, but the lower has been leaking a little by the prop and it seemed like it was running a little on the hot side too me. but this was a year or two ago.

Actually compared to todays 50 hp motors it is pretty light.
Manual start 197 lbs electric 205.Of course that is almost 70lbs heavier than the 58 35.They are very thirsty About 6 gallons per hour @ wide open throttle under ideal conditions. The 35 uses about 4 gph.
You might check www.aomci.org ,brp dealers, or ebay for parts.

The impeller is available at vintageoutboard.com. I don't see the seal kit there though.

Go to http://shop.evinrude.com/ The electronic parts catalog only goes back to 1968, but surprise!!! The "Heavy Duty" lower units on the 1968 65hp models 65832 short shaft and 65833 long shaft are nothing other than the resurrected 1958-9 50hp. Order the parts right there.

You mean they had light duty and heavy duty LU's on the '68 65hp? Seems odd.

Yep, they did. Well, not "light" but "standard" which was the 75hp gearcase. As we all know, the Fat Fifty was noted for being able to push a barge. So they reintroduced the gearcase as an option on the 60 and 65 for shoving heavy boats. Not very popular and not many around.
