I just picked up this motor today. Looks like death and was stuck when I got it. I saw the factory electric starter and electric choke and I thought: "heck yeah" THe starter and the choke works. I pulled the head right away and luckily all the bolts came out, without hassle. Even the little screws on the lower shroud came out. So, I saw a little bit of rust in the lower cylinder, but it wasn't bad. A little scraping with a utility knife blade and it came up easy. I took a chunk of 2x2 and a hammer and rapped it loose. I sprayed WD-40 and rocked the flywheel back and forth. Repeated this for about 5 or 10 minutes and it freed up. Before I even got this motor to run, I got 120/100 on the test. I think once I run some sea foam through it and run it a while, the rings on the bottom cylinder will loosen up and make the lower number come up. Not a bad investment for $60. The lower unit had black oil in it (not white) and it pumps water like no tomorrow, so I lucked out good on the bottom end. One of the coils is shot, so I did run it for a few minutes on one cylinder. I love it, when they replace only one coil. :D:D

Oh man Zeph! A '58 18 hp in on my bucket list or sure. I love the reverse two-tone paint job on all the '58 models. Can't beat the old 22 cu. in. engines either. Where do you find all these wonderful toys!?!?!? Slap that sucker on a 12' tinny and hold on tight. Happy vroom-vrooming!

Yea. that is a good thought. :D:D Unfotyunately, the tiller mount is boroken, so I'll have to make it a remote control set up. I'm good with that, since it has all the accessories. I thought about puting it on mt 13'6" SaberCraft.
