I recently bought an old Johnson 75HP V4 that has broken two starter pinion housings since I got it. The ring gear looks good and I can't see any alignment problems. The housings may be from 50HP motors, but my motor mechanic says they are the same. Any ideas???

oldpaddler
All around this area, that know these engines say they are the same from 50 - 100 hp with the exception of the carbs and reads. Have you done the sync and link? Does it kick back against the starter? Do you have a source for parts? I have a hard time finding parts for my 58 50hp.
Richard

Thanks for the suggestion. The procedure in my Clymer manual for link & sync isn't very good. Do you know of any place on the web I could download a more detailed procedure?
