I haven't posted on here in a long time. Partly due to all of you kind folk on this forum. I got my grand fathers Johnson running and out on the lake many many times now because of all of the useful advice I found on this forum. I thank all of you!

But as you can see....I'm back. I'm having a carb issue. the High/low speed needle valves started leaking gas...I happened to have a carburator rebuilt kit so I replaced the valve packing and it looked to solve the problem. Well now it looks like the low speed needle is still leaking even after replacing these parts. The needle valve its self is in EXCELLENT condition this motor has had extremely low hours in its life and has not been abused. I was thinking maybe the float was stuck in a position that would dump too much gas into the carburator resultiing from it leaking through the choke down on to the valve? I'll know for sure once I take it apart again tomorrow.

Am I chasing down the right gremlin?

If it is leaking out around the needle valve itself, tighten the packing nut. If the nut is tight, remove the nut and add another packing or two.

Can I run the motor without the air silencer? I can't actually SEE where its coming from without having that on there.

Yes, for testing purposes you can run it without the silencer...

It was just a matter of tightening the packing nut down a little more. Thanks guys!
