I just recently aquired a new to me Super Sea Horse, and it runs great just wont go into forward gear, I did unhook the cable from the motor and had to manually push the large lever/gear selector on the side of the motor to allow the shift lever to move forward enough to go into forward gear. This put the position peg below the lowest level on the lever/gear selector and so my question is, how can i adjust the shift lever so that forward gear is in the correct spot on the lever/gear selector. Thanks for any all your help. I have searched and searched for the answer but I cant find any help. Justin

What a great motor! I have one myself :) Any pics?

Regarding your issue, I think I confused myself, thats easy to do.

You are stating that it will work if you manually shift after unhooking it but wont work from the helm with the shifter there at the remote control?

I think he wants to know how to adjust the shift linkage on the stbd side of the mtr. If I was there I could do it but I can't explain it here. I'm sure someone else can tho'.

I want to know how to adjust the shift lever on the side of the motor, currently when I put it in forward it goes into neutral, and when the selector is in neutral, motor is in reverse, and then you can move it one more time in reverse? Does this help?

You might also check the shift rod coupler as well. To adjust the shift handle, you should find item 39 below and find a clamping screw going through a longated hole. Once you loosen that, you should then be able to rotate item 39 and not the shifter handle. This will enable you to set neutral in the midway location for the shifter.

I could not find the clamping screw located at or on item 39. I did loosen the shift rod coupler I believe and tried adjusting that, but could not keep the rod still while moving the coupler. What am I missing??? Thanks so far for the help.

You keep the coupler still and move the rod :) Look in through the screw hole in the coupler to ensure that the detent is aligned with the hole bofore inserting the screw.

While the shift rod is disconnected, try pulling it up and down and spinning the prop to see where neutral, reverse and forward gears are.

Yes sorry the bottom

If the connector and rod are aligned as they should be we will deal with the handle.

Will I need to remove the screw holding the rod tight completely, because when I was trying to adjust earlier, nothing was budging when the screws were loose?

The screws pass through notches in the rods; if all was loose but not budging sounds like it is assembled right.

There is no adjustment in the oval port on the leg. It is only a disconnect and reconnect for lower unit removal. The adjustment is on the shift lever beside the cowling as mentioned above. Shaft #39.

Can you explain the adjustment then, because when I examined the part #39 there were shims/pins holding it only in a certain position with the lever.

If it's there it should be obvious. screw #36 should be loosened and there's another one also.

Yes, if you don't find the screw (#36) then that is likely your problem with the shifter adjustment. Maybe it got loose and fell out.

I figured out that it was my cable, can anyone point me in the right direction as to which cable I need to purchase for the shifter and also the fuel, the boat wont plane out, because of speed, so im guessing that the throttle cable needs replacing... my control at the steering wheel is a Evinrude Simpler
