I recently overhauled mt 35 horse Evenrude. The 4 way ignition switch was also replaced. After installing the switch there was no ignition spark. My assumption is the coil, but wanted feedback about other possible causes. Ignition switch? Powerpack? Etc. The starter will turn over, but without spark.

Any resource for replacement coil, pack, etc.

First your motor uses a ground circuit to stop the
motor and it needs to be open for motor to run.
If there is a main connector going to motor from dash unhook and crank by hand check for spark it
may start. Good luck,

Just to paraphrase Spike's post - you cannot use a modern boat or auto 4-way ignition switch. The magneto engines like yours (and mine) came with switches that allow the engine to run when no contact exists, just then opposite of what you may expect.

To replace the wiring for my 1960, I just installed two switches in the dash - one to crank the engine and a second as an on/off switch that grounds the coils.

blaze
I have 2 1958's myself, if you have 12 vdc going to magneto it will not fire! On one I have a togle switch for the on\off and a push button to start! good luck!

Richard

Looks like that may be the problem. The replacement switch I have is a conventional. I will give your suggestions a try. Thanks for the input.
