Hello,
I have a 1959 50hp that i have been restoring(and learning about). I have redone the ignition system, cleaned and rebuilt the carburetor, and the fuel filter. The engine is running well, but now i am to the lower unit leaks. I got the classic milky oil on some pretty new oil, so i got a new impeller, new seals for the lower unit housing, and all of the impeller seals and o-rings. I will be out of town for a couple of weeks, and would love to solve this problem when i get home. So, i am trying to figure out which seals might additionally be common culprits for leaks. I got the gasket which goes along the gearbox. The only thing i haven't ordered yet are the O-ring which goes along the propeller mechanism. I also would like to order the newer "lower unit" oil screws with the allen screw. Does anyone know if they are compatible. with the older units>? I haven't been able to find out
Thanks
Ian

If you are going to tear it down for one seal, replace all of them while you are there. No point in having to go back in there later. If there are any non-compatible drain/fill screws, I don't know about them.

Thanks! I have ordered the additional seals, as well as a later model allen key style magnetic drain plug. Hopefully this will stop the water leak!
