Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a 15' Starcraft Jet which came with a 1959 Gale Sovereign 35hp electric start outboard. The wiring looks to be in really bad condition and is corroded and has several areas where the wiring cover has split open. I found a wiring diagram from searching the posts here, but I got to thinking that maybe it would be easier (not to mention cheaper) to rewire the motor myself. Will I harm anything if I replace the wires from the starter and the electric choke and simply run them to a new solenoid and key switch?

Thanks for any help/advice you have.

Nope. Won't hurt at all. I rip all that old crap out and direct wire everything. Make sure to put in a 20 amp fuse or breaker on the main +12V line that runs back to the key switch.
