I'm not brand new to boats but this will be the first restoration that I have attempted. I have owned a 1965 Seaswirl p-14 runabout for several years and I have made some cosmetic repairs including paint, but nothing like the work that this G-3 needs.
I Have split the deck from the hull and removed some of the floor and will start to remove the old transom this weekend. The transom on this boat is curved so I will need to install it in layers. I plan on using four 3/8" pieces of plywood for the new transom. The stringers are in decent shape and I will only need to remove and replace about the last foot of the 3 middle ones.
There is also several layers of old paint that I will need to remove before I can start to fill and repair all of cracks scratches in the deck and hull. I need to reinforce the supports under the deck in the bow. I also need to move the steering from the port side to the starboard side of the boat and fill in all of the holes in the dash.
Here is the boat from the first day that I towed it home:
And here are a couple of the stringers and transom:
Now the fun begins. I look forward to all the advice and encouragement along the way.
