1959 Johnson 35 HP does anyone know what this hole is?

Finished sealing up this thing yesterday and filled up with oil today. Tried it out in a barrel and thougt everything looked good till the grey stuff started oozing out of this hole. Took out the fill screw and nothing but beatiful yellow oil ran out.
As I mentioned in another posting, I have most of another lower unit in junk parts and examining the other unit told me nothing because it's all plugged up with crud. Anyone know if I have to take this apart again? Thanks for past and future help.

That's the drain hole for unburnt fuel. This is normal for 2 strokes.

If your lower unit oil is nice and yellow, versus milk shake white, then you're in good shape. I would however make sure that those drain holes keep completely clear at all times. They are notorious for plugging up, because they are a bit small. If they plug up and water sits in there over the winter months, it will freeze and risk popping open your lower unit housing. I just blast it with a hose.

Yep...I had to carefully drill mine to clear it. Extra water must be able to get out of the exhaust housing.

It's normal goo coming out a normal machined drain hole. Go fishing!
