Hey guys I had posted for the 1st time a few weeks back with some questions as I now have my 1st boat.

The boat is a 14ft 1961 Hydrodyne with a 1959 Evinrude Lark 35Hp motor model number 35517.......when I brought this boat home and really inspected it the boat and motor looked great.......the wiring on the other hand was a messy hack to say the least......connections were just bare wires twisted together in some places.....in others there were some wire nuts.....and in others there were electricial tape.

The dude that had the boat before me had hacked into the harness and made a total mess of things.

A buddy of mine came over today and we pretty much rewired everything cleaned up all the connections and replaced the soleniod.......when finished we filled a bucket with water and turned the key and the engine fired right up.

Not only did it start but idled and throttled great......put it in gear and varooooom as both forward and reverse worked great.

The problem is when we went to shut it down we turned the key and the motor did not shut off........I had to choke the engine to kill it.

So it starts up fine with the key but will not shut down with the key........I am sure I missed something.....maybe the gurus here can help shed some light on what I have done wrong.

I am sure its just a misplaced wire but I cannot find it.

Thanks

There are two small black wires coming from the magneto. One goes to either one of the "M" terminals on the key switch. The other magneto wire goes to the center terminal on the vacuum cut-out switch. From that same center terminal, another wire goes to the other "M" terminal on the key switch. That should do it.
