1959 Merc 58ae Electric Starter

Looking for a rebuild kit for an electric starter off of a merc 58ae. need new brushes and bearing but I'm having a hard time finding a kit or part#s. Engine serial # is 1228789

Have you checked with oldmercs.com aka East Coast Marine Services? I'm pretty sure they would at least have the whole starter. You could call and see if they have the brushes and bearings.

The other option you may have is to look in your local yellow pages and find a starter/electic motor repair place. A lot of those parts are pretty generic and they should be able to find them by dimension alone. They usually can do a whole rebuild at a really reasonable price too.

Thanks Starppy, Yeah I looked at oldmercs and they do have new replacements for $300. The starter works it just has a bit of play in it, I'll try giving them a call and see what they say.

My part list isn't going to be in untill next week any chance someone can look up what the original Mercury part# was for this starter?
