I picked this up a few weeks ago. I followed some good tips by reading previous post. The boat was listed and titled as a 1964 Alumacraft. I sent some pics and SN to Alumacraft and they tell me it's a '59 model R. There are a lot of things I can do with this to improve its current state but I've already been out in it. It came with a 1980 9.8 Evinrude which runs great, trolling motor, fish finder, some extra seats...
I think the trailer is original, from looking at pics from previous post. The remains of the logo on the side is interesting, I think it's painted. Does anyone have any knowledge of this. I mostly here people talking about decals. I hope to one day install a steering wheel, but the outboard is fine for now. I really like this boat. It's built like a battleship. I think I could mount a 50 cal. on the bow cover if I wanted to! This is my first post here. I'll try to take some better pics later and upload. I've already learned not to talk about a new boat here without any pics. Oh yea, the oars, I got those a while back from another guy for another boat. I think there Alumacraft paddles. No markings, just judging from other pics. I'll have to put some oarlocks back on the boat. Let me know what you think.

Re: 1959 Model R

Super find. Its been a long spell since we've seen another Model R on here. Excellent boat...They made about 2,200 of these. I thought I saw the stamped aluminum bolsters on the back that are riveted/screwed in. Screws on the top three to facilitate replacing the inside transom board. I thought they stopped putting those on very late in the model run??

If you wouldn't mind sharing the serial number, I would appreciate it.

Anyway...that looks like a '59 logo. They looked to be thinner than earlier logos...almost a water applied look that thru sun fade and oxidation turned to dust? Common look for the logo.

More pictures are always great but it looks like a real nice boat. They were built so tough its just great to have a nice, useable boat that's 50 years old.

Replacement logos are available on EBay...not cheap, but pretty nice. Now you just need the steering deck and you are off to the races.

Thanks for sharing....happy to address any other questions.

Re: 1959 Model R

Serial number is R2369.
Alumacraft sent me some literature which showed a Model R with steering at the bow cover. Have you ever seen this? I think I've seen some Model F's like this. Judging from two holes in the side near the middle seat, I think maybe a control box was mounted there at one time. It would be good if I didn't have to find/fabricate a steering deck.
The wood on the oars is rough but I've been using them with my Oldtown Predator SS. It's kind of neat that I got those oars before I ever new about Alumacraft, and then I got the boat that they were for. If you've got a picture of a '59 logo, I'd like to see it. The colors on mine seem to be red, white and blue.
Thanks.
