Well after thinking I had the overheating resolved and finally getting the new Shear Pin put into this beast. I took her out on the water today with my family for a quick test, after about five minutes on the lake, I noticed it was quite sluggish, turned the engine off and popped the cover, smokin hot"""", overheating again, I have replaced the impellor, all of the seals and the thermostat, the thermostat had popped when I finaly cooled it down enough to open up the cover to take a look" while stuck in the middle of the lake again", well I went to put the thermost\at cover back on and it fell in the drink????? can you believe it, I am just boggled with the cooling system on this engine, I have replaced most every part and still overheats, I hope I didnt warp the heads on this outing, I am just a little frustrated to say the least and may consider scrapping the whole thing for a motor that at least has a pee hole so I know it is cooling properly;;

ok, well, I've had a chance to cool down now, just wish this engine would, does anyone have any ideas on the cooling issue, I guess I will have to order a new thermostat cap for starters,

I don't remember how much horsepower a 'super seahorse' has.I do remember years ago having a bunch of new thermostat gaskets that were wrong from the factory.They didn't have a bypass hole in them.I think it was a mid 60's V4.

Just a thought,

Take the back exhaust cover off. On the upper exhaust housing you will see a rubber boot where the water is discharged. Just above this boot, and under the power head you will see a soft plug about the size of a quarter. Remove this plug. Under the plug you will see three hole's in a triangle pattern, see if these hole's are pluged. If they are, it will hold water in the block, and it will over-heat. Also on the gearcase, look under the water pump plate. There is a thin web, just under the pump, and ahead of the shift rod. See if there is a crack in this web. This will also cause problem's. Where are you located? I have that thermostat cover, and can send it to you.

I have the cover, check valve, and spring, plus the thermostat plastic internal housing. Give me your mailing addesse, and you can have it. Just do the above test's. Run the above test's with the thermostat cover off in a barrel, or what have you. If the engine flow's a lot of water out the thermostat housing, you have a blockage, probably under that soft plug, after all the test's you've done.

Heck, I didn't think about it, but there is a new feature on the forum to send another member a private message. (Upper right with your login info...)

That would be the best way to exchange this sort of stuff. I havn't tried using this feature yet, I hope it works!
