1960 3hp Johnson runs rough!

I've rebuilt the carb and it runs much better than it did, but while running at 3/4 it will bog down to barely running then it may die or it may pull out of it and go back to 3/4 throttle. Usaully while this is happening I hearing a clicking in the magneto area making me think it may be arcing there instead of the at the plugs sometimes. It has new plugs. It just doesn't stay running at the at steady pace. If you put it at mid throttle, it will run there for a few seconds then go lower and mabe die or even sometimes it runs higher for a few seconds.

Scsims<br />Like my dad always said you need gas and spark to run. Had problem with plugged fuel filter on 5hp that did similar got gas then didn't ,cheap place to start.

I have checked the gas from the tank to the carb.

scsims,<br /><br />Now might be a good time to pull the flywheel and have a look at your ignition. If you still have the original coils, you'll probably find them cracked and they may be arcing to ground as you suspect. I would replace the points, condensers and coils. Parts are cheap and not a big job to accomplish. A service manual is a must and can be ordered from the link at the bottom of this page.
