Hi there. I purchased the above motor with electric start. Because I am new to this territory, does this need a key? I have heard people talking about this as though there is another way of starting the motor electrically without a key?? If it is a key system, what is the ignition key system needed to connect to the electric box?

Thanks a bunch. I dont want to have to crank this bad boy.

Basicly all the electrical systems available to this model are independant. This model uses a magnito/ point ignition system. All you need to do is turn the engine over either manualy or by electric starter motor. The elect start system contains a batt, soleniod, switch and a starter motor. The switch can be keyed or a button or? Then the was a charging system available on some model and could be added to others. Most motors of this era did not use a charging system. You simply recharge the battery when you got home. I guess the answer to your queation is no you do not need a key. You might want to obtain a manual to help wire up your starting system though. It is very basic.

Thanks Commander.

I am still a bit confused. How does the system get a spark if you arent using a key or a button? Forgive me for my ignorance in electrical systems.

So you connect the starter box to a battery?

Brian,

That ignition sytem generates its own spark via a magneto. No battery needed to run it, only to run the starter motor.
