Hi all! My dad recently gave me his custom craft Manta Ray runabout, but it needs some things to make it usable once more. I was hoping that some of the experts on this forum could point me in the right direction.

The boat is solid and has a good transom, but is their any way to test that other than seeing rot or damage? Also, it needs some new parts, specifically a new windshield (old one was plexiglass(?) and you cant see out of it much anymore. Also some new rubber edging around the edge of the boat, along w/ any chrome trim it may have had. Are their resouces for these products, especially for the windshied? I really want to redo this boat and make it as original to 1960 as i can. Any help is much appreciated

Welcome to iboats. how about some pictures. don't scrap the windshield, there are product to clean and polish, serious you will ever find original equipment. rub rail is available thur the iboats store. that a rubber mallot and tap around on the transom, solid sounds is thump, rot is thud..

Re: 1960 Custom Craft Manta Ray

good advice...:) thanks for the help. the windshield is pretty scratched, mostly from just the weather. My dad never had it covered, so it just got weathered. Same w/ the rubber trim....dry rotted away. Ill try to post pic when i uncover her, i just towed her to my house. Im kinda hoping somebody else w/ some experience in doing amateur, small restoration has any more advice about these old boats (i.e. paint types, where to get the "gingerbread" for it, how it handles in the water.)

I live in Pittsburgh, PA, so if anybody knows any reputable boat shops or marinas that could help me find some of the stuff i would need, I would appreciate that also. :D

i've only restored about 15 boats. but finding original as i said is almost impossible. you have to go as close as possible. this is a 1956 i'm finishing.
