So I got my 1960 evinrude lark 2 started today and I just have a few questions about the carburetor. There is 1 screw/knob on the top of the carburetor and I am wondering what this should be set at. There is also another on the bottom of the carburetor and I am also wondering what this should be set at? Is there anything else I should adjust? I don't know the history on this motor, but is it really necessary for a carb rebuild kit if it runs fine? If you have any more questions just ask. I can probably get some pictures tomorrow if you need them. Thank you!

Re: 1960 evinrude lark 2 carburetor questions

Basic settings for the top and bottom jets on your carb:
Top knob/jet: Slow-speed/idle adjustment...turn the knob clockwise gently until it seats/stops, then back it out 1.5 turns counterclockwise.
Bottom knob/jet: High-speed adjustment...turn the knob clockwise gently until it seats/stops, then back it out 3/4 turns counterclockwise.
There is a locknut on both. If they don't turn freely, you may have to loosen the locknut a bit. After you make these settings, run the motor (in a barrel, on the lake, not on flushing muffs) up to speed and adjust the high-speed clockwise until it starts to cut out, then back the knob counterclockwise until it smooths out. Same with the slow-speed knob...idle the motor down and adjust until it starts cutting out, adjust the knob until it smooths out. Then tighten down the locknuts while holding the knobs in place. You may have to repeat/tweak the settings out on the water for best performance...have a co-pilot on board.
