I just go this motor from my father-in-law. it hasnt run in years but he said when it was running it would run great for 10 minutes then it would bog and die. to me it sounds like a fuel filter problem but i am seeing a lot about the impeller replacement... could it be overheating?

Yes replace the impeller as a matter of routine if it has been sitting around or even if just not replaced recently.

Clean the fuel filter. check the fuel lines and the pick up from the tank for obstructions.

Also check the tank venting as 10 mins running could be due to lack of venting (Or is it a two line tank?)

I dont think the hoses on an engine of that old will not be compatible with fuels containing ethanol so if you have to use an ethanol fuel consider replacing those, but get it going first.

It is overheating if you cannot keep a finger on the cylinder head for 2 or 3 seconds or if a splash of water sizzles.
