I have gotten it running and am waiting on a new fuel pump.
here's my question: When i started it in a drum of water it ran great and then would shudder or try to stall, if i reved it up it ran fine, when i stopped it the drum had alot of oil in the water and on the motor. It seems to be coming from the hole on the lower flange near the water pump. I have not been into the block ie. pistons or rings. Changed out the coils, points, condensers, cleaned carb. put in new float, needle and seat, water pump and seals. Will crank and run on two or three pulls but don't want to put in the water until i can fix the oil issue. The oil isn't coming from the lower gear, as the gear oil is still full and clear. Did change the "O" ring on the drive shaft also.
The oil in the water is dark and looks like it is fuel oil mix, even smells like fuel. At a loss as to where it is coming from.
Could it be the rings or the baffles in carb causing the excess oil leaking ?
Any help would be appreciated..
