1960 Johnson 18hp - Seal Question

Redoing the lower unit seals on the in question motor. The original driveshaft seal, which was a double lip seal, is no longer available. The new seal is a single lip seal and much thinner. I'm inclined to put back to back new seals in although I can't find any info to the contrary. The top seal may stick up a tad though but shouldn't be the way of anything. Any comments or suggestions?

If there is room for two, by all means do so. That's what they do on newer models, and the reason for thin seals. Install the lower one spring down and upper one spring up.
