Hello I came across an old boat and motor out in the California desert. It cost me two cases of beer as a thank you and some gas to go get it.
It has sat in a mobile home lot at least for the last 20 years. Going through it with a friend of mine on iboats and as near as we can tell it is all original and very clean.

I know absolutely nothing about its life.

Motor is Model number RDS-22
Serial number 2030557

Cleaning up the wiring in solenoid junction box.

Found Motorcraft D2AF-11450-AA solenoid.

I don't think that this is right. Though I'd throw it out to you gurus for directions.

Thanks
Dave

Uh-huh. Yep people run off to their local auto parts store and buy a Ford solenoid, which looks identical but is NOT. The Ford solenoid will destroy the starter safety switch. The correct solenoid is OMC/BRP 378444, or Sierra Marine 18-5807, available right here at iboats. You also may have to correct the damage caused by the Ford solenoid.

(EDIT: F_R beat me to it as I was typing and researching..)
Not a pro here but from what I can tell, pretty sure you'd need:

OMC part number: 0378444
Sierra version: 18-5807

That Motorcraft part you listed seems to be an automotive solenoid, and doesn't look like it's spark protected.. Can't tell for sure...

Basically, marine use must be spark protected...

If you finish checking it out, and decide you're going to use it/refurb it, then I'd probably pick up the marine solenoid as listed above and not use the automotive version..
(Shouldn't be using automotive version anyway... )

Hope it helps! lol
