I have been searching online diagrams with no luck to even find the part number of the part I need. I am looking for the grommet that goes in the lower unit that seals the copper water line into the lower unit. I have had no luck finding the diagram that calls out the part number.

Merc parts are searched by serial# and model, not year.

I found watertube seal part#s fairly quickly guessing at which motor, but it might not have been the right motor...

So what serial# 400 Merc?

DCM58A, some times when I am trying to locate parts that are no longer manufactured or even have a part number to search on, I look at other engines with similar configuration and see if that part looks similar or could be used. I actually did that for the cowling seal on my '76 Johnson 40 HP. The seal is no long available, but newer engines used the same type seal and I bought one of them and used it. It was perfect. So maybe you can look at the oldest parts break down of an engine that closely resembles yours to see if a part from that engine could work. Of course the part number won't be the same (or it could, who knows) but the part itself can fit and work. JMHO.

the serial number is 1387253. I can't even find a parts diagram that shows the part to even begin to search using a part number.

Thank you I will have to check that out dimension wise, I found one at a local mercury dealer but it was too small, frustrating when you can't find the part listed in a parts diagram.
