I bought this boat a few months ago and discovered it had a bad transom. I am going to fill it in with Seacast, but figured I might as well do this now while I'm at it. I've already hollowed out the inside between the skins. It's got a 15" transom height, but I want to raise it another 5" so that I don't have to use a jack plate for my long shaft motor. Short shaft motors around the Puget Sound are scarce. I don't have much fiberglass rework knowledge so i don't know where to start. How should I go about raising the two skins before I pour in the Seacast?

Gee if you have dugout the bad wood pulp, why not go back with plywood? Cut it to the right shape and let it stick up the 5" extra, and taper the sides back to 15". Coat the plywood with lots of epoxy, shove it between the skins and clamp it up. I would reinforce the transom inside corners as well, with 2X2 lumber. Cover everything with resin and glass cloth. Of course, I am an amateur, but that is how I would approach it.

I would go the plywood route, but I would have to remove the rub rail and cap. The interior is sprayed with bed coating and covers all of the nuts that hold onto the rub rail. I had some badly rusted bolts that I had removed earlier from the transom area and was afraid I'd run into the same issue times 30 if I tried to remove the rub rail.

Here's a pic of the back
I believe I own this boat now,I bought it from a guy up in port angles a few weeks ago, any info you can give me on how you ended up doing the transom work would be great, i also want to pull the rub rail and reseal it with 4200, but as you stated it has ben rhino lined and all the nuts are coated. The boat is in great shape visually, i just mounted a 40hp Etec on it, i sure hope the transom work is up to the load.
