1960 Service Manual

(This is in regards to a 1960 Johnson Sea-Horse 40hp RD-22)<br /><br />I don't have the factory service manual. Please don't yell at me yet. <br /><br />I'm not a rich man and hate to spend the $73 Ken Cook Co. wants for it. I've been looking on eBay with no luck. I've emailed a few of the eBay stores, and its usually a little old for them, but they can get it for me for $75 (lol).<br /><br />Are there any other sites I could check that may have a copy? I'll probably break down and get the Ken Cook photo copy when my wife's not looking, but I thought I'd check. <br /><br />Matt

Have you tried the local library for an aftermarket manual? That plus Iboats should get you by until one pops up on ebay. (best I see now is a '64. You need a '60 or '61)

You can try the outboardwizard or marine.com.....they do reprints also. Darn things are getting pricey.

I have not tried the local library. My wife makes the trip there once a week, I'll check it out. I know everyone recommends the factory manual, but a Seloc would get me by right?<br /><br />Matt

Holy moley, has Ken Cook jacked the prices of all their manuals?? That's really outrageous for a 40 page 45 year old manual. Looks like marineengine is still letting them go for $45. <br /><br />I've got half the mind to start photocopying my service manuals on principal alone..<br /><br />Seloc is all right. Next best thing IMO. Try finding the ABOS manual though - it's out of print but they say it's a lot better than Seloc or Clymers.<br /><br />PS - as I read it, those manuals' copyrights are falling into the public domain in my country at 50 years... Looks like your government caved in though.

I have never seen a motor-specific OMC factory service manual prior to 1964. I have a "Johnson Outboard Service Manual" that covers all Johnson models, published 1965. I have Johnson Service Manual Supplemants (all models) for 1966 and 1967. I have many parts manuals for individual Johnson & Evinrude motors prior to 1964, but not service manuals.<br />I look on eBay all the time. No year/model specific Johnson or Evinrude service manuals prior to 1964. I emailed Noyes Trading Post, who sells hundreds of vintage Johnson factory service manuals, and he's never heard of them either. What do they look like and why are they so hard to find? What in blazes did people use in 1961 when they needed a service manual for their FD15 or in 1963 for their RKL25D?

I freely give customers wanting service manuals the Ken Cook Co. addy and phone number. One guy called me back and said they wanted $80 for a just a service manual. Something like around an 89 year.....one of those years when the service manuals weren't clumped all together. I sure was shocked!!

I have found a website (marineengine.com) which says they are still selling the factory service manuals for $45. <br /><br />Has anyone ordered from this site before? If they're reputable I better hurry up and order before they jump to $80.<br /><br />Matt
