Hi everyone (new to the forum). Looks like I'll be starting up the restoration of my MFG Oxford. Overall it seems pretty solid for having sat in my parents' back yard for 25 years. So far it needs a new transom, a new deck, some fiberglass repair and a motor rebuild. We'll see how this goes right?

This should be fun, I sank this sucker in the James River in Virginia back in the early 90's. I actually managed to get the motor to spin which surprised me, I just need to check the compression. I'm trying to convince my kids to jump in and help, but it's not a smart phone or a playstation so they'll probably avoid it until it's splash time.

Well, I've decided the trailer will definitely be the place to start. It's been sitting so long the rims are about 4" deep into the ground. I did manage to get 99% of the trash and dirt out today. I even managed to pull the motor (which is a 1964 Johnson RXL-12). I'll post pictures when I get to a desktop.

Sounds like me. I can't post pics in the shop because of the reduced size needed. So I got to wait till i hit my chair in the living room. It has the image reducing program this site likes in it.

Nice boat your working on.

Okay, so here are the pictures of me cleaning it up and looking for potential problems. It looks like the previous owner tried to bondo repairs in the inside of the hull. I also pretty much toasted a shop vac getting the dirt out. Good times all around. I'm just happy I managed to get the motor off (It's actually sitting on a stand now). The splash well looks like it's in pretty good shape except for a couple holes the last guy had drilled in it to run wiring and steering. The area under the bow has me worried, looks like a serious hack/bondo job. I'll probably remove that inner piece and get a look at what's going on underneath it. Slow and steady right?

Got the boat off the trailer and sitting on tires for now until i can get this trailer done. It's a steamy 91 with zero wind in my part of Virginia today so I'm taking it easy today. The trailer has a nice crack where one of the cross members is welded, time to see if my puny 110v welder can handle it. On a side note, I copied someone on the forum who used a furniture dolly to build an outboard stand, I should have remembered the user to give them credit.

Ugh, I have come to a dead stand still after breaking my hand at work. I did tough it out and got the old axle and springs off of the trailer along with welding a few cracks. I'm probably just going to load up on tylenol and tough it out this weekend. I'm determined to get this thing done before the end of summer.
