No! That is just a make or break ground switch.

Re: 1961 75hp temp question

I installed an OMC water temperature gauge on my 1962 Johnson 75HP because the overheat light came on every time I used WOT. It required a separate wire to the sensor that came with the gauge kit. I'll check my parts bin and see if I can find the part number. Will post if successful. Good luck!

There are two types. But they should come with the gauge kit. Some are threaded for screwing into the block. But get the kind that goes under a head bolt and save yourself a lot of aggrivation.

Re: 1961 75hp temp question

Mine had the sensor that bolted onto the cylinder head cover. It was OMC Kit No. 173763. The gauge only was OMC p/n 173819. Sorry, but I do not have a p/n for the sensor. You might find one on eBay. FYI, I still have the two pages of installation instructions for this kit. I can scan them and send you a copy. If you are interested, send me a Private Message with your email address because the iboats.com forum does not support attachments. Good luck!

PM received and email with attachments sent. I believe all sensors "screw in" to something; either to the motor's water jacket OR, in my case, to the external mounting bracket. You could fabricate your own bracket and tap it for your sensor's threads. Look at the installation instructions I sent you and see if that answers some of your questions.

Sorry, unable to provide any pix because that motor was three boats ago! My best shot was the installation instructions. Maybe another member has one installed on their motor. Good luck!
