I've got a running 3hp for this, but it's really not enough power unless there is no wind/waves so I picked up a 1958 Mark 28 by Mercury which is a 22 hp model. What is the Model A rated for as far as power (mine didn't have a tag anymore)...

The best I can remember when I had mine, it was 12 hp. When I purchased it, it had an 18 hp Johnson and I used it for 8-9 yrs, BUT it was used with side steering so it wasn't apt to throw you out like a tiller handle could. 22 horse would be a wild ride if tiller!!

It is a tiller model and I got 'er running today. I'm up for a wild ride (driving a race car is another hobby), so bring it on!

It also has the arm so I could use it for remote steering, so if it wants to throw me from the boat I'll mount a small steering dampener to that so it'll track straight without holding on (not that I won't).

I'll report the results one I get it out, though it may be a bit since I need to do some service on the motor first.

I would, if I were you, rig up a kill switch so that if by chance you get tossed the engine dies and protects all other on the body of water.

Safety first my friends..
