I have an 18 foot wooden boat that I have never had in the water. I need to replace the prop. The prop in there now is a 10 1/4 - 12. Is this the correct size? I don't know how much the boat weighs. I called the local marine shop and they had way too many questions that I had no answers for. What do you think?

Motor came with a 10 X 11 with a 10" and 12" option.
I would think an 11 would be better but you should see how it does with the 12.
rpm range is 4,000 to 5,000.Usually should prop for closer too the high end.

Grant, I am not trying to stop a deal for a new prop, but in my opinion buying a new prop without knowing what your present prop is doing could be false economy. You need to know the RPM and speed you are attaining with your present prop before making a decision on what new prop to buy.

I second that.Once you know where your at get a prop. These old props can be hard to find wouldn't hurt to have a spare. You may be able have your prop repitched if need be.

Grant ..... This prop pushed the 17 ft wood boat I ran 22mph @ 3200 rpm
and @ 4000 it ran in the high 20's. It doesn't get much better than that. What brand name wood boat do you own? I've owned several Lyman boats.
