Hi guys,
I just bought an old 1961 Lyman outboard, has a 61 Johnson that runs like a top. the speedo doesn't work, can anyone give me any ideas on whether this is most likely an issue with the gauge or with the motor itself, and the best way to go about fixing it?
thanks!

Isn't the speedo water driven? Look on the transome, level with the bottom of the boat, and see if there is a plastic tube that sticks down into the water. There should be a small hose that runs from the speedo tube up to the guage.
Maybe the speedo tube is plugged, the hose broken or the speedometer is defective.

What he said^^^^ Your speedo has nothing at all to do with the Johnson. They are driven from an air tube connected to something like this on your transom
