I've got all the parts in for a complete water pump kit and the gaskets for the heads and the exhaust covers. What's the proper way to test after work is completed? I'm planning on taking her down to the launch and leaving it on the boat trailer to start. See how she's running (hopefully not hot). If it doesn't set off the light. I'll take her for a spin. Just was wondering what things I should be looking for? 1st time out. thanks

Nothing wrong with your plan except don't wait to see if the light comes on. Rather, check for water discharge out the blowhole in back. There should be a spray blowing out at any time the motor is running. More when the thermostat is open, but never none. The thermostat probably won't even open when running at idle speeds. That's normal with a good working water pump .

Retorque the head bolts to spec after test run and cool-down.

Update on "The Queen" that's what we've decided to name the boat. 1st off it's a 1960 Speed Queen so it's fitting and 2nd the wife's British and last but not least it's gonna take God to save her!! Lol. Anyways, she's running cool as a cucumber now, F R. Thanks for all your excellent suggestions and guidance during this slow, methodical process. I ran her out in the water for about fifteen minutes at idle and light never came on and spitting water like you said. Tried to take her out for a full run. But, she kept dying on me. I found the right low speed needle turned in so tight on the carb I practically needed pliers to get it off the seat. After I adjusted the low speed idle to specs she ran fine. Goosed her on the trailer though today (all by myself) to see how it would run with some gas to it. She did just fine. However, the battery went dead trying to start it yesterday. Before, I figured out to check the idle settings. But I got it to start and run by pulling the cord. On the charger as I write. Can't wait to get back to the lake to try her again next weekend. Thanks again!!
