1961 sea king 12 ft alum. semi-v...west bend 18 hp...good mates?

Eighteen hp is probably too much for a 12' tinny, Dave.

Also, though the West Bend was a good engine in its day it is very obsolete in terms of getting service or parts.

I would look for a 9.9 or 10 from a major brand for that boat.

Nice 9.9 h.p. would be ideal on that boat. 18hp is a little too much.

if it's just a 12 ft. open fisherman, 18 will be too much. i had a 15 on a 14 ft. and had to put controls at the middle seat in order to plane, if i was boating alone. would run 25 mph.

I have the same boat, and the plate on the transom says 10 hp max. The 18 will be a serious overpower for your tinny.

Look for a 9.9 or a 1950s 10 hp Johnson or Evinrude. Great motors and they'll push that little Sea King (actually made by Starcraft) along at a great clip.

well... thank you all for your responses... very cool...I do have a west bend 12 hp that looks like it has the same of alot of parts as the 18... but i havent been able to get her to fire...the 18 hadnt been run in 30 years and all i did to it was clean the points and give her good gas...i will try to get the 12 running...
