Have older Johnson motor has been sitting for 15years +, carb sparkplugs fuel lines all new. Both cylinders have spark and compresion, engine will start does run seemingly ok at high idler. When thottled up in gear high end not smooth low idel engine will quit.Found that at idle #2 cylinder spark plug disconnect will have no effect on engine. Thinking that no fuel mix is getting into cylinder. Does anyone have ideas on checking this conditioin?

If you had a broken reed, you would see fuel spitting back through the carb. Have you checked the spark through out the engine's running range. The spark should jump a 1/4" gap, or better when cranking. Will it do that?

Are you sure spark is "good" on #2? Could have a condenser or coil breaking down, or maybe the points are burned enough to give spark in open air but not under compression. I would look at the ignition. Reeds rarely go bad...

It's possible to swap items around and see if the problem follows. Do them one at a time to eliminate the good from the bad...
- Scott

Pull #1 plug wire and see if it runs on 2 by itself.

I purchased an Evinrude Sport Twin (1963)10hp, a number of years back. It is probably just like your Johnson. Like yours, it had set for many years before I got it. Mine needed new carb kit, new water pump kit, and fuel pump diaphram. The rubber items were rotted. After you get the electrical up to snuff, do a quick check on the fuel pump diaphram and water pump.

Tahnks to all #2 cylinder spark was just not strong enough new coils condensers and point took care of that problem. now to get it to run smooth!

That motor has a single carb so you were not losing your #2 cylinder due to carb issues. A gummy carb will starve or flood both cylinders equally. Reeds were a possibility - one set per cylinder. Rare though.
You have both high and low-speed adjustable needle valves on your carb. You said you did a rebuild so I assume it's clean. Here a thread on a 4HP; the prinicles for tuning the carb are the same.
http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=028617
